Propagation of Rayleigh Waves through the Surface of an Elastic Solid Medium in the Presence of a Mountain

Abstract

The paper presents a study of Rayleigh wave s propagat ion due to mountain of arbi trary shape and of width a. The mountain is present in the surface of an elast ic sol id medium. The method of solut ion is Wiener -Hopf technique. The ref lected, transmi t ted and scat tered waves are obtained by inversion of Fourier transforms. The numerical computat ions are carried out for the ampl i tude of the scat tered and ref lected waves versus wave number and wave length. The scat tered waves behave as decaying cyl indrical waves at distant points and have a large ampl i tude near the foot of the mountain.
